The case study explains how The Sammy Center partnered with Socio Analytics to improve how they track and demonstrate their impact on children’s social and emotional development. Although the center was already seeing meaningful progress, they lacked structured data systems to clearly measure and communicate those outcomes. Socio helped refine their data collection processes and translate existing observations into consistent, measurable metrics, allowing The Sammy Center to better understand their effectiveness and confidently show their impact to stakeholders.
This study examines how the Sammy Center supports preschool children who have been expelled or excluded from traditional childcare due to behavioral challenges. Using a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach, researchers found that The Sammy Center reduced challenging behaviors while increasing children's social-emotional skills. Parent interviews also highlighted the program's positive impact on both children and families. The findings suggest that specialized programs like The Sammy Center can provide an effective alternative to exclusionary preschool practices.
This research examines preschool suspension and expulsion by exploring the research, policies, and practices that contribute to exclusionary discipline and potential solutions. The research highlights factors such as provider stress, implicit bias related to race, gender, and disability, and the effectiveness of community-based intervention programs like the Sammy Center. Together, the findings suggest that policy changes alone are not enough and that reducing educator stress, addressing bias, and providing strengths-based support programs are key to preventing preschool expulsion.
